Under Armour has recently ventured into the trail running scene with several models of trail shoes, including the Horizon RTT, alongside a trail running series. The UA Mountain Running Series included 3 stops in Oregon, Vermont, and the final run in Copper Mountain, Colorado September 8-10. I wasn’t able to travel to any of the races, although some BibRave Pros did, but they look epic with plenty of different race options offered. If you can somehow make it to Copper Mountain, CO, you can still register with code BIBRAVE40 for 40% off. Please go for me and take a ton of pictures!

I’ll admit to being a little worried about the shoes when I first received them. The rubber lug outsoles seemed very aggressive and I worried none of the trails I use would be appropriate for their use. However, while the lugs seem a bit much for moderate souther trails, the shoe doesn’t have a stiff rock plate resulting in a surprisingly light and responsive feel. I was worried about rocks and other debris getting caught but I have yet to experience that.

As someone who likes lighter shoes with a responsive feel, so far these feel pretty great on my feet for runs up to 10 miles. If you like rock plate protection though, these may not provide the ground protection you like though. In addition, these are a very neutral shoe with a low ankle profile. If you’re not a neutral runner and require more of a stability shoe, these are probably not the best bet. I can tell that my ankles are working extra hard to maintain stability. Again, this is something I don’t mind but if you’re prone to rolling ankles, be careful.

I plan to wear these at the Snakebite 50k on Sunday and will add any further thoughts after that experience. Until then, check out reviews of the Horizon RTT from other BibRave Pros:
